Seattle are 2-0. They beat the New England Patriots 13-10 in Week 1 despite losing Sam Darnold to a hip injury on the opening drive, with the defence intercepting Drake Maye three times, the last in the end zone in the closing seconds. Drew Lock then threw three touchdown passes, all to Jaxon Smith-Njigba, in a 31-7 win over the Arizona Cardinals. Smith-Njigba already has four touchdowns this season. Darnold practised fully on Thursday and Friday, carries no injury designation and is set to start. Mike Macdonald's team went 14-3 last season and won Super Bowl LX.
Washington lost 24-22 in Philadelphia in Week 1, when a late two-point attempt failed, and then 37-20 at home to the Dallas Cowboys. In that game Jayden Daniels dislocated his left elbow, the same elbow that ended his 2025 season early. Dan Quinn has confirmed Marcus Mariota as the starter. The injury report adds to the concern: guard Sam Cosmi (concussion), linebacker Frankie Luvu (groin), tight end Chig Okonkwo (hamstring) and safety Nick Cross (illness) all missed practice during the week. Washington finished 5-12 last season.
The last meeting was one-sided. Seattle won 38-14 in Landover in November 2025, the game in which Daniels first dislocated the elbow. The matchup favours Seattle's defence, which ranks among the league's best by efficiency and has not allowed a 100-yard rusher in 28 straight regular-season games. That matters against a Washington offence that will lean on its running game with a backup quarterback. The Commanders' pass defence has struggled, and Dak Prescott threw four touchdowns against it last week.
The risks are real. The line has already moved a long way: before Daniels was hurt, Washington were slight favourites in early lines, and now Seattle are giving seven points. A late touchdown in garbage time can decide a spread bet at this number. Darnold is returning from injury, Seattle have question marks in the secondary according to reports, and Mariota is an experienced starter with a strong running game around him. That is why we are taking −7, where a seven-point Seattle win returns the stake, rather than −7.5.
The Seahawks' moneyline is around 1.29, which is too short to be of interest. On the spread, Seattle −7 is available at 1.81, while −7.5 is priced at 1.91. We think the difference is worth paying for the push on exactly seven points. That's why we're backing Seattle −7 on the spread.
Betting tip: Seattle Seahawks −7 (spread) @ 1.81 (Coolbet)
