Venezia's return to the top flight has been tough. Davide Nicola's team have one win and seven defeats, with six goals scored and 17 conceded. Sunday's trip to Genoa ended in a 1-0 defeat, a week after a 1-0 home win over Napoli that showed what this group can do when the game stays tight. The Penzo has not been a fortress, though: before the Napoli win came home defeats of 0-2 against Lazio and 2-4 against Fiorentina. Nicola is without Andrea Adorante, Bartol Franjic and Marin Sverko, while Tomás Correia is a doubt.
Inter have taken 22 points from eight league games (seven wins, one draw) with a 23-10 goal difference under Cristian Chivu. But the picture is not flawless. On Sunday they trailed Fiorentina until stoppage time, before Marcus Thuram equalised and Piotr Zieliński won it 2-1 with a penalty in the 97th minute. According to reports, Inter have repeatedly had to come from behind this season. Lautaro Martínez, Benjamin Pavard, John Stones, Luis Henrique and Curtis Jones are all unavailable, and this is Inter's third match in eight days.
Inter have won all five previous meetings, but most of them were close. Three of those wins came by a single goal, including both visits to Venice: 2-0 in 2021 and 1-0 in January 2025. The outlier is last December's 5-1 Coppa Italia win at San Siro. We expect Venezia to sit deep in a compact back five and try to keep the game alive into the final half hour, while Inter dominate the ball through Hakan Çalhanoğlu and Nicolò Barella and look for Thuram and Francesco Pio Esposito in the box.
The risk is obvious: Inter are far stronger, and Venezia have already lost several games by two goals, including the home defeats against Lazio and Fiorentina. An early Inter goal could open the game up completely. That is why we stay away from the 1X2 market, where a Venezia result is a long shot, and instead take Venezia +1.5 on the Asian handicap. The bet wins if Venezia win, draw or lose by exactly one goal, and loses only if Inter win by two or more. The +1 line gives a better price but loses on the same scorelines, and only returns the stake on a one-goal Inter win, so we prefer the extra half goal.
At OddsCapo, Venezia +1.5 is priced at 1.95 with Pinnacle, an implied probability of 51.3 per cent. With Inter's absences, the fixture congestion and their habit of slow starts, we put the chance of Venezia staying within one goal at around 53 per cent. That is a small edge rather than a big one, so we see this as a modest-value bet in a match where the favourite's quality is beyond doubt.
Betting tip: Venezia +1.5 (Asian handicap) @ 1.95 (Pinnacle)
