Timrå have had a difficult start. After four rounds they had just two points and only six goals scored, the lowest output in the league, and the last week did nothing to change the picture. A 4–1 defeat away to Rögle on 1 October was followed by a 1–4 home loss to Skellefteå on Saturday, which leaves the team last with eight goals in six games. Scoring is the obvious problem. What Timrå do have this week is rest: they have not played since Saturday and have had the whole week to prepare at home.
Frölunda are the opposite story. The Gothenburg side have won all six league games and sit top with 17 points, most recently beating Brynäs 2–1 and Djurgården 4–2 at home. The margins in those two wins are worth noting, though: one goal and two goals against solid opposition, not blowouts. On top of the SHL schedule comes the Champions Hockey League. Frölunda played away to Bili Tygři Liberec in the Czech Republic on Tuesday, according to reports losing 3–2, and now travel on to Timrå for their second away game in three days, with another road trip to Björklöven waiting on Saturday.
There is little recent head-to-head history worth leaning on, and old meetings say little about this season's squads, although reports suggest recent meetings between the clubs have tended to be low scoring. The likely match picture is Frölunda controlling possession while Timrå defend deep and look for chances on the counter and on the power play. A fatigued favourite against a rested, desperate home side is a classic recipe for a tighter game than the table suggests, even if Frölunda remain the better team.
The obvious risk is quality. If Frölunda's depth makes the difference and Timrå's attack stays as blunt as it has been, the leaders can win comfortably. Note how the bet works: Timrå +1.5 (Asian handicap, regulation time only, 60 minutes) wins if Timrå win, if the game is level after 60 minutes, or if Frölunda win by exactly one goal. It loses if Frölunda win by two goals or more in regulation, and that includes an empty-net goal late on. Timrå trailing by one and pulling their goalie is a realistic scenario, so a 3–1 can come quickly. We still prefer the handicap to backing Frölunda outright, because we do not see value in the favourite after their midweek travel, and a straight Timrå win is too speculative given their scoring.
Betinia offers 1.63 on Timrå +1.5, which implies a probability of about 61 percent. Our own estimate is that Frölunda win by two goals or more in regulation in roughly a third of cases, which puts the chance of the handicap landing at around 64–67 percent. It is not a large margin, but in a game where one side is tired and the other is rested at home, we think the price is slightly too generous to the visitors. That is why we are backing Timrå +1.5 in regulation time.
Betting tip: Timrå +1.5 (Asian handicap, regulation time) @ 1.63 (Betinia)
