Enzo Maresca has made an immediate impact in his first season in charge. City have won all eight of their competitive matches so far, including six straight Premier League wins that leave them three points clear at the top, and a 2-0 victory away to Porto on matchday one. Sunday's 3-0 win at Anfield, with second-half goals from Erling Haaland, Jérémy Doku and Rayan Cherki, showed how ruthless they are once a game opens up. Haaland has six league goals in six appearances and scored both goals in Porto. According to the latest reports, City have no new injury concerns, and Phil Foden is available in Europe despite his domestic suspension. At home in the group stage and league phase, City have lost only one of their last 25 matches.
PSG's picture is more mixed. Luis Enrique's side went four competitive matches without a win at the start of the campaign: a defeat to Lens in the Trophée des Champions, two 2-2 draws at Rennes and Lille after trailing 2-0 in both, and a 2-1 home loss to Monaco. The response since has been convincing, starting with a 6-1 win over Slovan Bratislava in the Champions League and continuing with a 2-1 win in Marseille and Saturday's 3-1 home win over Le Mans. Ousmane Dembélé and Nuno Mendes were rested for that game and are expected to return, while Senny Mayulu is an injury doubt. The defence is still a concern: according to reports, PSG have kept only one clean sheet in their first nine competitive matches.
In seven Champions League meetings, City have won four, drawn one and lost two. PSG have never won at City's home ground, with three defeats and a draw from four visits. The most recent meeting, in January 2025, went the other way, though: PSG recovered from 2-0 down early in the second half to win 4-2 in Paris. Expect City to hold more of the ball and push PSG back, with the visitors looking to break quickly through Dembélé and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. City's front line against a PSG back line that keeps conceding is the matchup we think decides the game.
There are clear risks. PSG have the individual quality to punish any lapse, and their recent run of wins suggests the early wobble is over. City also played an intense away game at Anfield on Sunday, and the club is dealing with off-field noise after an independent commission found it in breach of the Premier League's financial rules, a verdict City are appealing. We considered the alternatives. A City handicap of minus one needs a two-goal margin against the reigning champions, which is asking a lot. Goals markets are already priced short, as the market clearly expects an open game. The straight win is where we see the best balance between risk and price.
At OddsCapo, a Manchester City win stands at 2.11 with Coolbet, which implies a probability of roughly 47 per cent. Given City's perfect start, their home record in this competition and PSG's defensive vulnerability, we put City's chances at around 50 per cent. It is not a large edge, and the draw at home against opposition of this calibre is a real outcome, but the price is fair to slightly generous. That's why we're backing Manchester City to win.
