Liverpool - Arsenal in Premier League

Liverpool host Arsenal at Anfield on Sunday, with kick-off at 17:30 Swedish time, in the standout fixture of the Premier League's ninth round. Arsenal arrive second with 21 points from eight games, six clear of fourth-placed Liverpool, and Andoni Iraola's first meeting with Mikel Arteta's side as Liverpool manager could go a long way towards shaping the early title picture.

Liverpool have taken 15 points from eight league games under Iraola, with four wins, three draws and one defeat, and they have not lost since the 3-0 home defeat to Manchester City on 11 October. Since then they have won 2-1 at Brentford, beaten Brighton 2-0 at Anfield and scored ten goals in two Champions League wins over LASK and Villarreal. In the league, however, the defence has been the steadier unit: four clean sheets in eight matches. The attack has stuttered at Anfield, with only four goals in four home league games. Hugo Ekitike (Achilles), Conor Bradley, Giovanni Leoni (both knee) and Jeremie Frimpong (hamstring) are out, while Dominik Szoboszlai and Victor Muñoz are doubts. Liverpool also needed a penalty shootout to get past Chelsea in the League Cup on Wednesday.

Arsenal have won seven of their eight league games, scoring 13 and conceding only five, and five of those matches ended without them conceding. The only league defeat came at Brighton (3-0) in September, and the recent wins over Nottingham Forest (1-0) and Everton (2-0) followed the same tight pattern. The squad is stretched, though. Bukayo Saka (quad) and William Saliba (back) are out and Noni Madueke is a doubt. Without Saliba, Ezri Konsa is expected to partner Gabriel in central defence. Midweek brought a League Cup exit on penalties against League Two side Fleetwood Town after a 1-1 draw.

History favours Liverpool at Anfield. Arsenal's last league win there came in September 2012, and they have gone 13 league visits without a win since. The most recent meetings have been tight: Liverpool won 1-0 at Anfield in August 2025, and the reverse fixture at the Emirates in January 2026 ended 0-0. Earlier meetings were more open, but both teams currently look more convincing without the ball than with it in the league, and neither manager can afford to lose this one.

The risks are clear. Big Anfield games can open up quickly, Liverpool have conceded in all three of their Champions League matches this season, and both sides have the quality to punish a single mistake. Arsenal's set-piece threat is another factor, and the absence of Saliba could leave them more exposed than their numbers suggest. We have still chosen both teams to score: No rather than under 2.5 goals, because the bet also lands if one side wins comfortably without reply, a realistic scenario given Arsenal's clean-sheet record and Liverpool's home shutouts against Fulham and Brighton. A goalless draw, a 1-0 or a 2-0 all work in our favour.

Both teams to score: No is priced at 2.20 at Pinnacle on OddsCapo, an implied probability of 45.5 per cent. Weighing both teams' league defensive records, the absence of Ekitike and Saka and the low-scoring nature of the last two meetings, we put the chance of at least one side failing to score at around 49 per cent. That is a modest edge rather than a large one, and Liverpool's leaky European form is a genuine counterweight. That's why we're backing both teams to score: No, but as a measured play.
