Galatasaray - Fenerbahçe in Süper Lig

The first Intercontinental Derby of the Süper Lig season is played at RAMS Park in Istanbul on Monday evening, with kick-off at 19:30 Swedish time. Galatasaray went into the weekend top of the table on 19 points, three ahead of Fenerbahçe, so the visitors can draw level while the champions can open up a six-point gap after just nine rounds.

Galatasaray have won six, drawn one and lost one of their eight league matches under Okan Buruk. The one defeat was a heavy one, 4-0 away to Trabzonspor, but since then they have beaten Kasımpaşa 3-1 at home and Gençlerbirliği 1-0 away, and they arrive on the back of a 4-2 Champions League win at Lille. The biggest asset is RAMS Park itself: Galatasaray are unbeaten in 39 home league matches. The squad is not at full strength, though. Rafael Leão is a doubt at best with a groin strain and Barış Alper Yılmaz is carrying a muscle problem, which could take width and pace out of the attack. On the positive side, Lucas Torreira and Lesley Ugochukwu are available again after suspension.

Fenerbahçe had a slow start under İsmail Kartal, with seven points from their first five league games, but the last three rounds have changed the picture: 8-0 against Eyüpspor, 3-0 away to Rizespor and 3-0 against Alanyaspor. With 22 goals they have the most productive attack in the league, and they have kept four straight league clean sheets. The concern is the back line. Nathan Aké is expected to miss around three weeks with a hamstring injury, Mert Müldür has a meniscus problem and Jayden Oosterwolde is struggling with an Achilles issue, while Marco Asensio is out after knee surgery. In Europe the picture is mixed, and midweek they let a two-goal lead slip in a 2-2 home draw with Slavia Prague.

History points strongly towards a tight game at this ground. Of the last ten league derbies played at RAMS Park, five have ended level. Galatasaray won 3-0 here in April, but before that they had won only one of the previous ten home league meetings with their rivals. Fenerbahçe, meanwhile, are winless in their last four league derbies, with two draws and two defeats. The matchup itself suggests caution from both sides. Galatasaray usually dominate possession, while Fenerbahçe are likely to rely on N'Golo Kanté and Mattéo Guendouzi to close central spaces and on Vedat Muriqi as an outlet. Atilla Karaoğlan has been appointed to referee the match.

The obvious risk with a draw is that one goal settles it. According to reports, Galatasaray have already won ten points this season through late goals, and the home crowd at RAMS Park can tilt a tight game in the closing stages. Fenerbahçe's attack can also punish a home side that conceded four at Trabzonspor. We considered backing Galatasaray, but their unbeaten home run is already reflected in the price, and their attack may be without key wide players. Fenerbahçe's form is strong, yet their defensive absences make an away win hard to back at RAMS Park. The draw is the outcome where the history of this fixture and the current team news point in the same direction.

At OddsCapo, the draw is priced at 4.01 with Pinnacle, which corresponds to an implied probability of 24.9 percent. Given that half of the last ten league derbies at this ground have ended level, two evenly matched sides with shaky squads, and the high stakes, which tend to make both coaches cautious, we put the chance of a draw at around 28 percent. That is somewhat above what the price implies, and that is why we are backing a draw in Monday's derby.
