Claudio Giráldez's Celta are proving very difficult to beat but are struggling to win. They sit ninth in La Liga with eight points, and according to reports they have lost only once since the start of September – the 1-0 defeat to Omonia in Nicosia on matchday one. The pattern is one of tight, low-scoring games, with draws against Getafe, Málaga and, most recently, a goalless draw away to Elche. Starfelt (hamstring), El-Abdellaoui (knee) and Miguel Román are reported as unavailable, while Iago Aspas is reportedly back in contention. In front of their own crowd, Celta tend to play compact and wait for the counter.
Juventus under Luciano Spalletti opened their Europa League campaign by beating NEC Nijmegen 5-0 in Turin, but league form has been uneven. They are sixth in Serie A with eleven points after six games, with a 3-2 defeat at Sassuolo, a 2-0 win over Atalanta and draws against Milan and, last weekend, Cagliari. The injury list is long: Kenan Yıldız, Manuel Locatelli, Khéphren Thuram, Jérémie Boga and goalkeeper Kamil Grabara are all reported to be missing. That leaves Spalletti without his most creative attacker and two key midfielders, and puts more of the attacking burden on Randal Kolo Muani.
The head-to-head offers little guidance. The only previous meetings came in the 1999/2000 UEFA Cup, when Celta won 4-0 at Balaídos and Juventus won 1-0 in Turin. More relevant is how the two sides match up now. Juventus will most likely dominate possession and create the larger share of chances, but a weakened midfield could make it harder to break down a Celta block that rarely concedes many goals. Bookmakers price under 2.5 goals as the favourite, and a narrow, cagey game is the most likely scenario.
The main risk is the obvious one: Juventus have greater quality throughout the squad, and if they score first, Celta may struggle to come back. Giráldez's side have scored sparingly in their recent matches, and one Juventus goal could be enough. That is why we are not backing a home win. We prefer Asian handicap Celta Vigo +0.5, which wins if Celta win or draw. Since our analysis points to a tight game where a draw is a very real outcome, the half-goal start covers the two results we consider most likely together.
At OddsCapo, Celta Vigo +0.5 is priced at 1.75 with Pinnacle, which corresponds to an implied probability of 57 per cent. We rate the chance of Celta avoiding defeat at around 58 per cent, giving a fair price of roughly 1.72. Across the market, the equivalent price for Celta or the draw sits around 1.70–1.75, so this is a modest edge rather than a big one. We think the bet has value from 1.75 and upwards.
Betting tip: Celta Vigo +0.5 (Asian handicap) @ 1.75 (Pinnacle)
