Brest - Nice in Ligue 1

Brest host Nice at Stade Francis-Le Blé on Friday night, kick-off 20:45, in a meeting of two mid-table sides separated by a single point after seven rounds of Ligue 1. The contrast between the two attacks is stark, and that is what makes the goals markets in this fixture so interesting.

Julien Lachuer's first season in charge has been lively at both ends. Brest have nine points from seven matches, with two wins, three draws and two defeats, and a goal record of 13 scored and ten conceded. The 5-1 home win over Angers on 10 October, with Ludovic Ajorque, Lucas Tousart, Kenny Lala, Mama Baldé and Pape Mboup all on the scoresheet, showed what this attack can do, and Baldé struck early again in last weekend's 1-1 draw at Lille. The flip side is that Brest have conceded in six of their seven league games, the only exception being the 1-0 home defeat to Paris Saint-Germain. Raphaël Le Guen is out with a broken fibula, while Brendan Chardonnet and Giovani Versini are doubts, according to reports.

Nice are a different proposition. Olivier Pantaloni's side have eight points but only six goals in seven matches, one of the lowest totals in the division. Away from the Allianz Riviera they have scored once in three games: a 3-0 defeat at Paris FC, a 1-0 loss at Auxerre and last Sunday's 2-1 defeat at Lyon, where Elye Wahi's early opener was quickly cancelled out. At home they have looked sharper, beating Lille and Strasbourg 2-1, but the attack still leans heavily on Wahi and Mohamed Amoura. Laurent Abergel and Antoine Mendy are sidelined with cruciate ligament injuries and Moïse Bombito is a doubt. Nice are not in European competition this season, so unlike Lyon, Marseille and Rennes they did not play on Thursday and arrive with a full week's rest.

The two most recent meetings both produced goals at each end. Brest won 4-1 here in September 2025, and February's return game at the Allianz Riviera finished 2-2 after Brest had led 2-0 at half-time. Over a longer period, however, Nice have often been the steadier side in this fixture, and Sports Mole notes that they have taken points in five of the last six Ligue 1 meetings while keeping four clean sheets. The likely match picture is Brest having more of the ball and territory, with Nice sitting compact and looking to release Amoura on the break.

The case against our pick is clear. Six of Brest's seven league games have featured goals at both ends, their defence has been leaky, and Nice have shown at home that they can score twice. A single counter-attack or set piece from the visitors would be enough to beat this bet. We still prefer this market to a straight result. Brest's home attack looks capable of scoring, but the bigger question is whether a Nice side with one away goal all season can find the net in Brittany. Backing that doubt here is also more direct than an under on total goals, where a comfortable 3-0 home win would lose.

At OddsCapo, both teams to score: No is priced at 2.46 with Pinnacle, which implies a probability of around 41 per cent. Given Nice's away output and an expected goals tally that Sports Mole ranks second-worst in the league, we put the chance of at least one side failing to score at about 45 per cent. The edge is modest and we want to be honest about that, but the price looks slightly generous for a team that has rarely threatened on the road. That's why we're backing both teams to score: No.
